Bring Your Kitchen Into the 21st Century

Even the greatest kitchens need some updating from time to time. While knocking out walls, and moving plumbing fixtures might seem like the ideal way to create your dream kitchen, a full remodel can be time-consuming, messy and expensive.

Here are some of our favorite way to bring your kitchen into the 21st century while still being able to use it.

Upgrade Cabinetry

Cabinets are our favorite method of improvement to any space. Replacing cabinetry is an excellent way to bring life into a kitchen and provide style and functionality.

Nothing is more modern or innovative than frameless European cabinets which offer easier access and more storage space.

If you’re simply looking to improve current cabinet space, consider implementing divider systems and reassigning their contents. We love keeping fresh produce and wine bottles in dedicated deep drawers rather than on countertops as a way to keep kitchens looking sleek and uncluttered.

Additional storage

Once your cabinets are optimized it’s time to look at the rest of your kitchen storage systems. A bar cart or drink station is a useful way to free up cabinet space and add dimension to your kitchen. Showing off cookware with pot racks or installing ceiling-hung shelves can also add a needed modern flair to your kitchen while preserving a warm, homey feel.

Utilizing Windows and Doors

Brightening up your kitchen can be a great way to make it feel more modern, and you don’t need a huge, open floor concept to bring that sunlight in. Simply replacing back doors for a style with extra glass and going a step further by reframing windows or installing skylights above your kitchen space can dramatically increase natural night. If you have a less than desirable view from your sink window, use the window sill for herbs and sprouts or, if your view is blocked by a wall, consider growing some vines – we especially love flowering vines like coral honeysuckle or mermaid rose.

Get creative with your walls

Updating your backsplash to new tile, wood, or stone is an obvious choice to give your kitchen a modern facelift. But, there are a lot of other options that can bring color, dimension, and functionality to your walls.

Introducing a living wall is a beautiful way to freshen up your space and bring more life to your kitchen (literally). In general, having more plants around will help improve happiness, combat stress, and help you feel more creative in the kitchen.

Another way to renovate is to replace a section of wall or a sliding pantry door with a blackboard to create chalk art, write lists, or even keep blank as a sleek accent.

The kitchen is a place where memories are made with your family. Make it a place where you and your loved ones will enjoy spending time.
