Cast Iron for an Eco-friendly Kitchen

Cookware for Better Health and a Greener Kitchen

Our pots and pans are surfaces we cook on every day. You’d be surprised how much impact they have on the health of your body and the earth.

At LAVISH, we are committed to both the well-being of the environment and of our clients. One of our favorite things is how happy it makes you feel when your kitchen makes the world a better, more eco-conscious place.

Are you missing out on cast iron?

Cast iron cookware is amazing for so many reasons! It has a special place in our hearts and kitchen! Here are our top 9 benefits~

  • Conserve! You will use less oil with a cast iron pan, saving resources and promoting optimal health. A well-seasoned pan significantly reduces the need to add oil. You can even cook many things without it in cast-iron cookware.

  • Go natural! The repellent coating on nonstick pots and pans contains PFCs, which are linked to liver damage, cancer, and developmental problems. When heated to high temperatures, it releases chemicals from the frying pan into the air and your food.
Wouldn't you rather get iron than Teflon with your meal? Cast iron is the natural non stick pan alternative. A pre seasoned cast iron pan is a naturally non stick surface!

  • Fortify your health! Cast iron doesn't leach chemicals. Research shows it does increase iron levels, though. With iron deficiency a common problem in American women, switching to cast iron is an easy, healthy choice.

  • Save money! Here at LAVISH, we value a great deal on a better product that's also better for the environment. Re-think the pricey enameled Dutch Oven! Whatever cookware brand you choose, cast iron remains some of the most inexpensive on the market. Cast iron lasts forever, so it’s a one-time purchase. They make lovely wedding gifts and may just outlast all the rest of them - even the marriage!

  • Heat food better! A cast iron skillet is heavy, and that weight is part of their magic, allowing them to hold heat longer than most other pans, whether searing at a high temp or simmering on a lower one. Unlike stainless steel, cast iron handles an incredibly high heat level to create the perfect sear on meat. It also distributes heat evenly and retains heat better than carbon steel pans, which can't cook acidic foods, like tomatoes and wine.

  • Keep it longer! Cast iron pots and pans are so durable, they are nearly indestructible. You can't scratch the surface and just try to put a dent in it! When properly taken care of, high-quality cast iron can last for generations. A good cast iron pot can replace your ceramic cookware, which breaks and scratches easily. Even if it gets rusty, you can just scour the rust away, re-season it, and it's good as new!

  • Use it anywhere! You won't believe how versatile cast iron is. You can cook with it on any surface! They are always oven safe and can be used on electric, gas, induction, or outdoor ranges - even over an open fire! You will love the convenience of the easy transfer from stovetop to oven. Don't forget to pack them in your camping gear when it's time for recreation, replacing extra cooking gear.

  • Care for it simply! Cast iron cookware is so easy to clean. Just hand wipe it. You can use a small amount of warm, soapy water. If you've heard not to use soap on cast iron, that's a myth! The only thing you don't want to do is soak it. You don’t have to oil it each use, you just need enough oil to grease the cooking surface evenly before wiping any excess oil away with a paper towel. Seasoning cast iron is easy and should be done 2-3 times a year.

  • Age gracefully! Like a fine human such as you, cast iron improves with age! Much like a life well-lived, the more you use it, the more seasoned it becomes. Even at a young age, cast iron makes a handsome display in even the most elegant kitchen.

So, here’s How Cast Iron Stacks Up against the competition.
